چکیده
The origin of initial streamwise vortices in braid regions and their relationship with deformed spanwise are numerically studied via direct numerical simulation (DNS) the compressible mixing layer a convective Mach number (Mc) 0.4. Through an analysis fast Fourier transform on DNS data, two low-rank velocity models (vd vs) developed to demonstrate that both all originated from linear superposition fundamental norm mode [mode (1, 0)], pair oblique modes [modes ±1)], mean mode. Further investigations reveal that, downstream vortices, increase amplitude ratio (Ao/An) between ±1) 0) leads formation vortex regions. As Ao/An further increases, reaching threshold rotation motion exceeds irrotational deformation 0), generated aforementioned path for provides mechanism support our flow visualization results emergence precedes field.

The effect of streamwise braid vortices on the particle dispersion in a plane mixing layer. II. Nonlinear particle dynamics
A computational investigation of the nonlinear dynamics of heavy particles in a row of counterrotating strained vortices is presented. By tracking the particles numerically in the quasi-two-dimensional fluid velocity field, information is obtained on the nature of their trajectories, as well as on probability distribution functions and potential accumulation regions. The particle behavior is di...
متن کاملStreamwise vortex structure in plane mixing layers
The development of three-dimensional motions in a plane mixing layer was investigated experimentally. It is shown that superimposed on the primary, spanwise vortex structure there is a secondary, steamwise vortex structure. Three aspects of this secondary structure were studied. First, the spanwise vortex instability that generates the secondary structure was characterized by measurements of th...
متن کاملRegions of Uniform Streamwise Momentum in Turbulent Boundary Layers
This study investigates the presence of zones of uniform streamwise momentum (or UMZs) across a range of Reynolds numbers in turbulent boundary layers, spanning more than an order of magnitude (Reτ ≈ 10 3 − 10). A rigorous examination of the identification criteria suggested by Adrian et al. [1] is presented, and then employed to show that a zonal-like structure is prevalent in all datasets exa...
متن کاملinstability of wake-dominated compressible mixing layers
The instability of supersonic mixing layers, with velocity profiles possessing a wake component, is investigated using linear, inviscid, spatial theory. The mean-velocity profile is represented by a hyperbolic-tangent profile plus a wake component. Such profiles are encountered in the initial region of experimental supersonic shear-layer lIows, as well as in envisaged hypersonic propulsion syst...
متن کاملThe Stability of Compressible Mixing Layers in Binary Gases
We present the results of a study of the inviscid two-dimensional spatial stability of a parallel compressible mixing layer in a binary gas. The parameters of this study are the Mach number of the fast stream, the ratio of the velocity of the slow stream to that of the fast stream, the ratio of the temperatures, the composition of the gas in the slow stream and in the fast stream, and the frequ...
